UFO Challenge

To kick off the new year we are going to rev things up with a UFO Challenge.

So, dig through your sewing stash and find your top 6 must get done UFO’s and register them at the next meeting you attend.
You can join in at any time. There will be small prize for the monthly winner and a grand prize winner anointed at the end of the six months during the July meeting.

Don’t forget to pack your 2 fat quarter/50 cents entry fee. Then bring your list on an 8.5” x 11” sheet of paper and I will three-hole punch it an add it to the registry.

On your list we need:

  • Your name

  • Name of the project

  • Age of the project

  • Stage of progress

This challenge will hopefully generate some buzz, clean up some long ago stored projects, and give you motivation and something to submit to our quilt show! Every skill level can participate
and no matter who is crowned the Queen we all win by getting something done. The idea is to have a little fun and, if you’re good, end the six months with fewer UFO’s than you started! Look for the official rules below.

Happy Stash Busting,
Becky Beierle

  • Entrance Fee: 2 Fat quarters and 50 cents

  • Register your first 6 UFOs. In the registry include: the name of the project, the age and the stage it is in. The registry
book will be kept at the front table. Or you can email me the information and I will post it in the registry under your
    assigned page number.

  • You can only add new projects to your list when you complete something from the registry and check it off at the monthly meetings.

  • Every month before the meeting let me know of any finished items on your list. At the end of the meeting we will announce the months UFO Queen. The UFO Queen will be featured in our newsletter for the month.

  • In six months, total points will be added up and the quilter with the most points will win the Fat Quarters from the entry fee.

The Fine Print:

  • The group challenge runs from Feb 16 to July 20.

  • Reporting will be done on the honor system.

  • You do not need to bring in your UFO’s to register.

  • In the registry you will be given a page number on which to register your UFOs. When you complete a project, you are
encouraged to mark it down in the registry at the front table or email me* with your project specs.

  • A UFO is any quilt related project that you have started as of the end of January.

  • You must have some cutting or sewing started by you, not just fabric purchased.

  • These should be your projects, not things you are quilting for payment.

  • The project must need at least binding and a label to be considered a UFO.

  • You will only receive points for the work you have completed personally. If you send it to a machine quilter you will not
receive points for that portion of the work.

  • There is a 2 FQ entry fee, regardless of how many UFOs you have or when you join the challenge. If you join mid challenge,
you still pay 2 FQs and 50 cents. All proceeds to be used as prizes.

  • At the end of the 6 months, one quilter will win all the FQs. (If we have a huge number of participants, I reserve the
right to have more than one winner.) The winner is determined by the point system outlined above.

  • What constitutes done? This means quilted, bound, and label on! If you get rid of a UFO.... give away, throw away,
abandon and separate into fabric, these UFOs can be taken off your list, but they don't count as finished.

  • If one UFO becomes one or more finished projects, each will count as a finish. However, if two or more UFOs are combined into
one project, it will count as one finish.
