Loving Touch Committee

This is the page for guild members to help our community through quilting.
There are numerous opportunities for us to reach out and provide a loving touch to others in Edmond and the surrounding area. These projects truly reach a wide spectrum of the population - from newborn infants to the elderly.

The guild’s fabric stash is looking a bit tired and we could really use some child-friendly additions. SO….perhaps while you are out shopping for fabric you could pick up an extra yard or two to donate, or trim down your stash with that fabric you purchased to make your daughter (who’s now 15) a baby quilt or maybe you purchased something at a big clearance sale and simply aren’t sure what to do with it. We can use it!

We’re implementing a new system to better track the guilds fabrics we group together for you to select and quilt for Loving Touch. Please be sure to complete the form when you take a packet. When the completed item is “returned” please allow us to pull the check out form and mark it accordingly.  If for any reason you take a packet and do not have time to complete your project PLEASE return the item to the guild. Doesn’t matter if you have started or are almost finished the project, we can take it from there. If you have completed an item using your own fabrics, we would appreciate it if you would please fill out a form as you turn in your project.

For info on Loving Touch projects, please contact Vicky Wyalie.

Below are details on our 2010 Loving Touch projects:

Birthday Placemats - Edmond Mobile Meals
For 2010 we would like to provide "birthday" placemats to the Edmond Mobile Meals organization. The small size of these placemats makes them a great opportunity to practice your machine quilting. We’ll be needing these placemats throughout the year. You might even consider decorating the "cake" to match the month—St. Patrick’s Day, 4th of July, etc.

Please make your placemats 18” X 14” in size.

Becky Bierle has designed a cute birthday cake placemat that you may wish to use, or feel free to create your own design.

Your only limit is your imagination!

Preemie Quilts
Making tiny quilts for Preemie babies is another opportunity for you to use your skills or challenge yourself with a new technique.

Since other hospitals have heard of our efforts, we are now planning to provide preemie quilts to not only the OU Children’s NICU unit,
but also to Mercy Hospital and Baptist Hospital NICU’s.

These are great for using up orphan blocks and scraps. A super big “Thank YOU” for all your hard work in 2009,
we were able to deliver almost 500 preemie quilts to some of the worlds newest arrivals.

To best meet the needs of all three NICU units we would like to standardize the size of the preemie quilts - 22” X 22”.

UPDATE: We had over 100 preemie quilts turned in at the February 2010 guild meeting.

Youth Quilts - Hope Center of Edmond
If you want to work in a larger format, you can make youth quilts for the Hope Center of Edmond.

These should be approximately 40" x 44".
